Awesome for all Ages!
My 9 yo daughter has loved the I Survived series for a few years now. Truth be told, I do too. The stories are always about a kid (usually 11yo) who lives through historical disasters, and we learn about those disasters through his/her eyes. The tales are well-written and include facts- as well as historical fiction to hold the audience’s attention. They are exciting and sad; gripping and profound; tragic and heartwarming. You can always count on the main kid-character surviving...but not always the other people in the story. Your child and you will certainly come away with the intended morals: *War is Hell. (D day, Pearl Harbor, Gettysburg, American Revolution, Civil War etc) *People can be evil: (Hitler, 9/11, maybe in a few years, Trump will be a subject of one of her books) *The newest inventions aren’t always the best: (Titanic, Hindenburg) Don’t turn your back on nature: (Tsunamis, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, fires, floods) Animals are wild; don’t turn your back on them either:: (sharks, grizzlies) And molasses is...well. We are reading that one next. Really can not recommend enough.
Tarshis for the win
I'm 42 years old. I wait on pins and needles for new I Survived Books to be published. I love them. I want to be Lauren Tarshis when I grow up. My dad was a member of the United States Army during the Cold War. In the mid to late 80's he served as a border patrol guard between East Germany and the west. Perhaps because of that, and my own resulting exposure to the horrors of World War II, I am passionate about WWII education. I selected this book for my 3-5 bookclub at the library where I work, sight unseen. I knew Tarshis would deliver. And she did!
Another great I Survived book for your child that loves realistic fiction adventure.
Another great story that kept my 10yr old reading until the end! He started reading these in 3rd grade and now is in 4th and just loves them. Any time another book comes out I buy it, he reads it in about 2 days and then I add it to my classroom collection for my 3rd graders. I recommend this series to anyone with a child that loves realistic fiction/adventure and needs to keep them wanting to read! Great for 8-11 yrs.
Lauren Tarshis excites kids about historical events!
My 7-year old loves all the I Survived books that he has read so far. He can read but his dad reads them to him and his little brother. The 7-year old is so interested in history events now after reading a few of these books. This authoR (Lauren Tarshis) should write text books to get students more interested - bravo!
Damaged
Great book, but it came damaged. Pretty disappointed since I paid for a new copy.
Great book you can't stop
One book you should write is the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But for this book I thought that it was a good idea to write about. It locks you in and you can't stop. Because I've read 14 and I've only been reading this series for like 5 months.
Good
I purchased for my niece. I have never read any of these books but she can't seem to get enough of them. She enjoyed it
My son loves it!
My little son is learning so much about history through this series. He loves it!
A great value.
These are great books for my reading tutoring students. The kids love the stories and the format is awesome. It almost makes my job easier and it does make my day when a student loves what they read.
Students are obsessed!
My students are obsessed with Lauren Tarshis' books in the I Survived series. I pre-ordered this book and knew that they would be so excited to have it in their hands on release day.
