This powerful memoir and inspirational guide shares a story of loss, resilience, and life-changing lessons found in the darkest seasons of life.

When Ashley LeMieux and her husband lost their children in an adoption battle, it sent her into a tailspin that, ultimately, taught Ashley how to soar. Most people live with constant fears, burdens, and pains that they try to hide from themselves or others. In Born to Shine, Ashley shares a message of hope for women brave enough to admit that everything is not okay. Because the truth is that even when life is in ruins, people can still shine.

LeMieux tells her story in alternating chapters, interspersed with lessons readers can apply in their own lives. It combines personal reflections and practical tools to help women shine despite the darkness, to press forward one day at a time, and to turn their most painful moments into their greatest teachers and signposts to true, deep, unassailable joy.

Phenomenal message, poor editing

I am such a fan of Ashley LeMieux and The Shine Project! I was first introduced to her story via a podcast interview and have been an avid supporter of hers ever since. I preordered the book the minute it became available and counted the days until it was shipped! The message of the book did not disappoint. It is inspiring and uplifting and will make you feel ALL the feels! My only disappointment is a multitude of typos and errors throughout the book. Further editing should have been done before it went to publish. I hope that she’ll consider this when finishing up the next one (which I will most definitely purchase & love!).

Meh

I desperately wanted to love this book. I follow Ashley on social medica and was drawn in to her story. Love her personality and how positive she is despite the hardships. I was SO excited to recieve and start this book, but I just couldn't get into it. Didn't even finish it. Gave up. Just wasn't for me.

A swing and a miss

The story of Ashley LeMieux’s motherhood journey is heartbreaking and profound, but Born to Shine unfortunately lacks the details and meat, for lack of a better term, that I had been looking forward to finally reading. It’s the same bits she has shared on social media throughout the years. Still gut-wrenching, but honestly nothing new if you’ve followed her for any length of time. I found the self-help parts to be pretty lackluster and generic, and truthfully skipped on over most of them. The constant use of “Sister” in reference to the reader made me cringe. Are men not allowed to read this harrowing tale? The foreword/introduction really could have used an editor! There were several glaring errors that even Microsoft Word would have certainly picked up on.

Wanna change your life? Start here with this book

I feel like certain people and things are placed in your life for certain reasons. I feel blessed that I somehow came upon Ashley LeMieux's Instagram that one day. I needed to hear what she had to say. I swear she could one day be like a Tony Robbins! She's amazing and she touches lives as well as hearts. I bought this Kindle version because I couldn't wait to take a step towards changing my life. Ashley had a very moving Instagram post that day that made me think and at least try to see what a book could do for me, my life, going forward, etc. I hope you take a chance too and take a step towards a better life whatever that might be for you. It's never easy to step out of your comfort zone when it's hard to see the silver lining but it's there, somewhere. Just gotta take some more steps towards it.

Are you ready to shine?

In her book, "Born to Shine", Ashley shares her absolutely heart-wrenching story of how they unexpectedly unofficially adopted two young children into their family and then lost them unexpectantly overnight when they tried to make their adoption official. Ashley shares her journey of how she discovered her inner light through her darkest time. She makes you feel like you are a part of it all as you read her story. You will laugh, you will cry, and sometimes you won't even know what emotions to feel! I really appreciated the vulnerability and realness of it all. Ashley so did not need to go as deep as she did, but I'm so glad that she did. If you are going through a hard time, this book will bring some light to your eyes. Ashley is like a big sister, friend, coach, and mentor all wrapped in one. She shares about how she has learned to embrace the hard times and the good. For she knows that the story isn't over yet. The good news is that your's isn't either! Whether you are currently going through a dark moment or not, I highly recommend this book. It will help to give you perspective on your life and the lives of those around you. You were born to shine!

Uplifting, Encouraging, and Down RIGHT NEEDED!!

This book has all the feels. Ashley has taken her pain and made it relatable to everyone regardless of our individual experiences. No matter your trials, heart ache, or pain this book is going to help walk you through your experiences and come through the other side with a new perspective, a new resolve, and a new found inner strength. Reading this book I felt like I had a friend guiding and encouraging me along. Excellent read and truly uplifting in the best way possible!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Best book ever!!

This book is nothing short of amazing! I’ve read through it once and plan to read it again and do some major highlighting. Ashley’s heart and compassion for others, even when she is going through trials of her own, is simply amazing. It takes a special person to share their heart and the tragedies they’ve endured, for the purpose of encouraging others and letting others know that they are not alone in their own heartache. I will always refer back to this book when I go through my own struggles. I follow Ashley on IG and she has been through more heartache recently yet she still continues to shine and spread encouragement. She’s my kind of people. :o)

Inspiring, Real, Raw, and Uplighting

Ashley has taken the most tragic thing to happen in someone's life and used it to encourage, motivate, and love other women. If you are going through loss or just don't know how to cope with all the things life throws at you, this book will guide you along the path to freedom. Everyone's story looks different, as well as their recovery from the tragedies of life, but "Born to Shine" is one of many tools that can used to help bring you out of the trenches. It's worth the read! I plan on passing it along to a friend who is currently struggling with some losses in her life. I gave the book four stars simply because there were a LOT of grammatical errors in this book, especially toward the end. As a teacher, this drove me crazy.

You aren’t alone

Ashely reminds you throughout her book that you are not alone in how you feel, how you heal or how you grow. She shares her pain with you so you know that you too can get past difficult, hard situations in life. Must read!

The only book you’ll need on your healing journey!

The best book I’ve read in my entire healing journey since I lost my mom at such a young age. I oftentimes didn’t have the words to express my grief, anger, sadness, and loneliness, but somehow, Ashley was able to articulate every single sentence I didn’t know how to. Healing yourself takes courage, but while reading this book, you’ll find that courage isn’t rushing to move on from the pain & anguish; it’s sitting in the pain & befriending it. She does an amazing job of sharing her awful, tragic story while simultaneously sparking hope in her readers. I have already read this book twice!!
